What Is Your Addiction?

Now, this one might be a confronting question to be answering, but from one point of view, it is like self-therapy. This is not a place where people need to be helped either (unless of course they ask for support). It is merely here for you to express yourself…it is a great personal development technique that helps you discover more about yourself…and usually helps you to feel better. Often the revelations can be really funny too, so be open to the answers that come to mind as you start to write. If you are reluctant to do this publicly, then at least give it a go in private, but there is nothing like a public admission to heal yourself and often the people around you as well. There is a neat little poll below that you may like to add your answers to as well.

ADDICTION DANGER SIGNS:

  • You keep thinking about (your addiction) and anticipate the next time you will be indulging in it.
  • You need to keep using (your addiction) more often to feel satisfied.
  • You have tried unsuccessfully to control or stop (your addiction).
  • You feel really moody, upset or angry when you try to control or stop (your addiction).
  • You regularly indulge in (your addiction) longer or more often than you originally intended.
  • You have severely compromised or risked the loss of a significant relationship or career opportunity because of (your addiction).
  • You have lied to people close to you to conceal the extent of (your addiction).
  • You use (your addiction) as a way to escape from your problems.
  • You suffer some type of physical, mental or emotional problem as a result of (your addiction).

Frankly, we all have addictions in some form, and it serves NO PURPOSE to feel bad about them…feeling bad is rarely a good motivating factor to change anything. If you would like to change an addictive habit, simply FOCUS on FEELING GOOD about something else. It really is that easy.

What have you been addicted to in the past? Why? And what benefits did it give you? What addictions do you have now? What are the down-sides of your addiction? What benefit do you get from them? And what, if anything, have you done to compensate for the down-sides of your addiction? What would you like to be addicted to in the future?
